When the term “jewelry” is mentioned, images of earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings might be the first to cross your mind. However, although these are the conventional set of jewelry around, there is also what you call “body jewelry”. These are unconventional jewelry
It is evident that more and more people are getting into having at least one of these. Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you may think that getting one simply looks dirty and not presentable, there are some who consider that having one is a way of expressing their personality.
If you are one of the few who believes that getting body jewelry is cool, here’s a guide to the most popular pieces around.
The Captive Ring
This is one of the most popular pick, because it is relatively easy to use. They don’t have attached beads or threads on either end. Nevertheless, it is held by a tension stance provided by the ring’s both sides. You can easily insert and remove it by slightly opening the space in between the ring to get the right fit.
How difficult a captive ring would be highly depends on its diameter. The smaller the diameter, the harder it is to use. The beads can come in various arrays of stones and metals in different sizes, shapes and colors.
The Bead Ring
This body jewelry is the threaded variation of the Captive ring. One end is permanently coupled to the bead, while the other can be threaded, which allows you to remove one ball. Majority of bead rings are suggested for semi-permanent wear. However, it still depends on the rings’ diameter. This is because frequent bending could easily break them.
Circular Barbells
If you are working and you often need to take off your piercing, then this body jewelry is for you. It is similar to the bead ring. However, its both ends have threads and have balls attached. You can remove it by un-screwing one of the balls. It is one of the easiest to body jewelry to remove.
The Barbell Studs
These look like small barbells. They are straight bars and have balls on either end. Both or one of the balls can be threaded. You can remove the stud by unscrewing the ball/s. The negative part here is that these are usually more complex to clean, especially when the piercing is still new, in contrast to a ring.
Nevertheless, these are used when it is impractical for you to have a ring on the piercing site. Similar to the Circular Barbell, these are recommended if you’ll be taking your jewelry on and off most of the time. GP
