For some men, donning jewelry is a not a very manly thing. However, people’s perceptions are constantly changing just as men’s and women’s roles are becoming more interrelated, somehow even interchanging. Jewelry shops are no longer visited by women alone, or by men who want to buy rings, bracelets and necklaces for their sweethearts or their mothers.
It is already becoming recognized that guys can wear these things themselves. Why do guys wear jewelry? This is very similar to the argument on why men wear pink. Ready-to-wear stores or RTWs now manufacture pink shirts for men because men now are becoming more confident about themselves and their sexuality. In general, girls like pink and boys like blue.
We saw this stereotype distinction as early as we were young, contrary to the belief that pink was a stronger color, and thus formally endorsed for boys in 1921. On a separate research however, it was said that females developed a liking for reddish colors because they are associated with riper fruit or healthier faces.
Parents now buy the blue stuff for baby boys, and pink toys for baby girls because it has become the natural course of preference for both sexes. In spite of this, however, men are consciously picking to wear something that their girlfriends or mothers would wear because they believe that this will make them even manlier. A guy who wears pink exudes confidence just like a man who accessorizes with jewelry is certain about his masculinity.
If a guy wants to be adventurous about his looks, why should he be held back? His bravery to do so, his bold move of wearing precious jewelry is in itself a very masculine deed. A guy only has to know what types of jewelry will suit him best. He has to know whether he looks better in gold or in silver, in chunky or in delicate chains, in simple or in studded accessories.
The general rule every man should know is not to overdo it when it comes to jewelry. It’s really a make or break situation, so he has to make sure he has the right ones. Moreover, too much jewels will attract too much criticism, not to mention, danger. Determining how and what one should wear will definitely matter to the whole look one needs to achieve. Then again, it still depends on the guy how he carries his jewelry. Beyond style, the most important thing a man must exude is not just the glint of their jewelry, but also self-confidence and conviction of one’s own taste.
